DUS Test guideline of Mulberry
Guidelines for the conduct of test for Distinctiveness, Uniformity and Stability on Mulberry (Morus spp.) was developed by the task force (03/2016) constituted by the PPV & FR Authority for Mulberry (Morus Spp.) with consultation by Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute, Mysuru. These Test Guidelines shall apply to all vegetatively propagated varieties, hybrids, mutants, polyploids and transgenics of Mulberry (Morus spp.).As a designated Nodal DUS Test Centre for Mulberry, this Institute conducts tests to evaluate mulberry varieties for their novelty, distinctness, uniformity, and stability.
The Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Act (PPVFRA) of 2001aims to protect the rights of farmers and plant breeders, and to encourage the development of new plant varieties and allows theBreeders, Successors of breeders, Assignees of breeders, Farmers, groups, or communities, Universities or publicly funded agricultural institutions, convention country etc. to apply for plant variety registration.
Six mulberry varieties from CSB-CSRTI, Mysuru - G-2, Sahana, MSG-2, RC-1, AR-12, and G-4 - have been successfully registered under the PPV&FR Act, 2001, as extant varieties, providing dual protection for the variety and its name.
