The Central Sericultural Research & Training Institute, Mysuru celebrated Gandhi Jayanti at the Government Primary &  Middle  School, located in the Gopalapura  village, Mysuru Taluk, which is adopted by the Institute under its Adarsha Reshme Grama Yojane. Over 150 enthusiastic school children, teachers, village elders, Sericulturists, officers of the Institute and NGO representatives participated in the programme. 
 
In the programme that was presided over by Dr. V. Sivaprasad, Director, CSRTI, Mysuru, Dr. Seetharam, Vice-President of Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement, Mysuru spoke on the occasion on topics spanning over Gandhiji’s life and messages with particular reference to cleanliness and personal hygiene. He engaged the children in an interactive session that was successful in carrying forward several important messages to the participants. He emphasized on the need to be proactive in achieving cleanliness around home, school, place of work, public places, instead of relying entirely on the government machinery. While appreciating the efforts of CSRTI, Mysuru, he appealed to the staff of the school to appropriately utilize the opportunity and strive towards improving the school environment. There is a need to propagate the ideals of Gandhiji in respect of simple living and living in harmony with nature among the young minds, he added.
 
In his presidential address Dr. V. Sivaprasad, Director, CSRTI, Mysuru, reiterated on the need for cleanliness and personal hygiene. He underlined on the fact that the development and progress of the nation is possible only if its citizen are hale and healthy. He called upon the gathering to practice tried and tested lifestyles adopted by our elders, who believed in the doctrine Health is Wealth, also upheld by the Father of the Nation. He also spoke on environmental degradation and global warming that are threatening the future of mankind.
 
The Institute, provided overhead tank and pipelines to the kitchen and toilets of the school, wash basin facility, water purifiers for ensuring safe drinking water and dust bins for segregation of waste. Personal hygiene products, such as, hand-wash, soap, tooth paste and brushes were distributed among the students. The practicing Sericulturists were gifted with bleaching powder and disinfectants used in sericulture.   
 
The teaching and non-teaching Staff of both Primary and Middle schools, Sri. Rajashekar, K., Scientist-D and Convener of Adarsha Reshme Grama Yojane, Scientists and officers of CSRTI, Mysuru were present on the occasion. Sri. Ravi Kumar, Physical trainer, welcomed the guests and gathering. The students spoke on the life of the Mahatma and also demonstrated the appropriate way of washing hands. Dr. S. B. Nagaraja, Senior Scientist, CSRTI, Mysuru delivered the vote of thanks.
